Just got a 2000 Mountaineer and the display on the CD player (shows clock and track) doesn't light up. It will occaisionally appear then go away. I haven't noticed a pattern as to when it appears. CD player seems to work fine. Not much of a mechanic and was wondering if any one could tell me where to look specifically. Thanks!
This guy has a fix for the radio display. He wants like $20 donation for the fix.
Involves pulling the radio apart and resoldering things.
I fixed mine after it not working for 1.5 years. Not to hard and much better than a $400 replacement from ford which will do the same in a number of years.
I have seen replies to this problem elsewhere in this site and was very surprised to see that one of the local businesses in Erie, Pa. , Sipple Radio was mentioned. I have done business with these people and they are very knowledgeable and professional. As I said before I seen where they charge 85.00 + tax for the repair and guarantee it for 1 year. If you feel your up to the repair yourself, the first reply is more affordable.
I forgot to tell you that my CD/CASSETE PLAYER is doing that exact thing with intermittent display and I will be contacting them to do the repair so if anything goes wrong I have someone to hold responsible besides myself.
