Does anyone know what this is? It's screwed on the frame under the cab, the fuel line goes through it. It has two wires, one is grounded to the frame and one goes under the dash.
Just some info. 57 f100 302 with mechanical fuel pump. It makes a ticking noise when the key is in the on position (is this bad?).
It looks like some sort of fuel filter to me. As for the box with wires around it, maybe it's an induction coil that magnetically filters metal particulates in the fuel? Not sure.
I think you maybe correct Matthew.
Should it be making a loud ticking noise?
Yes, as long as it is ticking it is working and pumping fuel, those Facet pumps are not quiet. When they get near their end of life they will stop ticking/pumping and usually a light rap with the handle of a hammer will get them running again. When they do that it's time to replace it.
