Three weeks ago my new 2003 F450 6.0 deisel with 13k miles died in traffic. Since then, Service mechanics, ford engineers, and the hotline hasn't been able to solve the problem. They've tried replacing fuel injectors, filters and even the computer module. I had installed a refridgerated 12 ft box on the unit and have had to rent a truck for the last three weeks which I think ford should pay for. The dealer tells me they are working with ford to resolve the situation but I want answers now! Any advise?
If you look at "Wont even turn over" thread my truck sounds the same and at first it had 5 or 6 codes after changeing out the pcm it still had two of the same (P2614 and P2617) I think Cam and Crank sensors. After changing out the pcm and cam sensor it ran for 50 miles or so and then died again (this time right in front of Ford). Didnt look good me I limpping in towing a boat blowing smoke and dieing as they are showing someone a new 6.0. If you have heard of anything I would appriciate the help.
Whats up with your truck have they found the problem and helped you with your rental? My "WONT TURN OVER" back in shop with the same codes (P0603,P2614,P2617 and P0306) and thats after new pcm and cam sensor. I did get about 50 miles with it running real good so I must ask (if our problem is the same) why change the engine in yours? This seem to be more computer or sensor because when mine runs it runs great.
I'm own a landscaping company in Dayton, OH...home to "too many GM" fans! We've been looking forward to the new diesels to replace the GM product portion of our truck fleet. Yes, the GMCs and Chevys are pieces of ****...from honest experience with 5 of them. Dodge portions have been fair. Ford has been #1. Hence, the desire to "upgrade".
Unfortunately, a close friend that works at GM says word is that Ford's new diesel is having major problems with it's fuel injection system. Because of this, GM is preparing to "flood the truck market" similiar to something that Ford had done in years past. Wasn't quite sure if I wanted to believe him (he is a GM guy remember), so I thought I'd check online for some user reports.
Looks like I found what I was searching for...not sure how wide spread this problem is. Can't risk anything like this with my fleet trucks though. Guess I'll go purchase some "slightly used" Ford diesels until things get straightened out.
Daughters 03, 6.0 mangled two or more valve actuaters. Improperly stamped out piece. Took Ford a month to fix it and it still doesn't run like it aughter. This after less that 5,000 mi. I under stand the 7.3 is still available as an option better choice.
Forget the chevy, you can probably still buy a tried and true 7.3 at any Ford dealership for a reasonable price new or used. Either that or you can order another 1-2 years and wait till the 6.0L Powerstroke has been perfected.
I'm getting ready to put in my order for an 04 F250 PSD. Nowhere on my computer wish list does it tell me the 7.3 is available for 04 - even as an option. Have I overlooked something or am I just gong to have to hope for the best that I don't get a 6.0 with problems?

If you want the 7.3, you have to find a leftover '03 model.
