Hey so i just finished my crate motor and trans in the blue beast. I have 2.5 in true duals and hooker headers but I am looking for quieter mufflers that wont restrict too much. I dont want to wake the dead in suburbia every time i start the truck. I had thrush welded that were way too loud. Can some one suggest something that they have used that will have a growl when I get on it but not drone like crazy?
I used a walker / thrush dual inlet/ dual outlet muffler. It acts as a crossover for the exhaust and worked out great. A nice quiet rumble at idle (sounds like a fox body mustang) and no drone while cruising.
I have used magna flow on several customers cars and seen dyno testing on them vs standard turbo mufflers. They would fit what you want well I believe.
For (reasonably) quiet cruise and some bellow at WOT I like turbo style mufflers. Bigger generally means less restriction/less noise. A parts store or Summit generic smaller turbo is "better". The biggest Dynomax brand Turbo you can fit is "best" for low restriction and low(er) noise IMO.

+1
I just had dual 2.5" exhaust put on my truck with an x pipe and dual oval Magna flow mufflers. Awesome! Unless I'm standing on it the exhaust isn't loud and has a nice tone.
The engine is a mostly stock '77 460 I pulled from a F350 camper special and put it in my '77 F150 4x4.
Getting set to put on a 2.5 I/O Walker Quiet-Flow...EFI manifolds and 45166 Y-pipe, plan on doing 2.5" all the way to the rear. Used to be a truism that the more tailpipe you had after the muffler, the quieter it was, so I am mounting the muffler to the Y-pipe and pipe from there back. If you really want it to be even quieter, a resonator at the rear would also help. I'm odd, I guess - I want the truck to breathe better but I don't want any more noise than necessary. If it was as quiet as a Prius and turned 10 second quarters I'd be thrilled.
Thanks guys, I think I am going to go with a 3 chamber magnaflow xl exhaust. Having long tube headers and 2.5 true duals means I have alot of growl to silence. My 62 year old mother thought I didn't even have mufflers it was so loud. Haha
My vote would be dynomax super turbo as well. Flow potential is at the top, nice deep tone at idle and if you get on it, but normal driving/ cruise nearly stock quiet. Most people complain they are too quiet.
Like yourself I tried the thrush welded, drone was insane.
Still on the fence about an exhaust choice. I would like to run an x or H pipe but my drive shaft is smack dab in the middle of my two exhaust pipes. Does any one know if one would quiet down an exhaust?
