External Oil Cooler

I notice IPR sells their v2 oil cap with 3/4" inlet/outlet by itself. Has anyone used this combined with a air to oil cooler to create a DIY oil cooler?

I definitely think bulletproof has the best product but frankly it's over built to the point that it has 10x the life of other critical parts. I dont see the logic in investing so much in 1 albeit critical subsystem. I've got other things I'll need to address at some point in the near future so I'm looking for a solution that makes sense in light of the limited life of the rest of the truck. I saw the IPR oil cap as a means to create a solution that would be under $1000 with some blood sweat and tears.
