Does anyone know if I can swap out Captain's seats in the middle row of my 2001 Expedition for a 60/40 split bench seat? If I can do I need to make any modifications or will it bolt into the existing holes?
Steve, let me know where you find a seat. I have a 60/40 bench right now and I'm looking for captains chairs. I have a '99 XLT with tan leather. I've checked the floor in mine and it looks like the holes are already there for the swap, They are just covered with carpet. It's just a matter of getting the seats and hardware. Why are you getting rid of your captains? We want them because we have 3 kids and my wife is getting tired of flipping the seat forward to let one into the back. We never use the middle seat in the 2nd row so we figure it would be easier for the critter to walk between the capt's. I'm in Ohio so if anyone knows where to find seats, info would be much appreciated!
We have just the opposite problem. My wife is tired of losing the storage in the back because of the third row having to be in because of the third child. How/where did you check for the holes in the floor? The captain's chairs four bolt down areas in each side. I'm almost positive that they can be swapped out but I wanted to be positive before I bought a seat. We have tan leather as well. Live in the Chicago area.
Believe it or not, I DO have a Half brother In the Chicago area that I haven't seen since I was 5. Steve, your mothers maiden name wasn't Lafever was it? (lol). Anyhoo, I've felt around the floor where the mounting holes should be for the capts and it feels like they are there. I've spoken to a ford body man and he said that the seats should bolt right in, but he wasn't 100% sure. I know I'll have to cut the carpet and find a cover for the old holes, no biggie. I'll probably pull up part of the carpet or cut a small hole today to see if the floor holes are ready for the harware. I've found seats at a few salvage places, so seats should not be hard to get at the right price. A 60/40 should be even easier to find. My wife is really anxious to get this done so I will be doing this soon. I'll keep you informed. Oh, I almost forgot, the inside leg of the 60 seat mounts just to the right of the hump in the floor. The capt leg mount is directly across from it on the left side.
No, it was Morrell. She grew up in South Chicago. Anyway, will look for them there and am going to the Ford dealer to see if I can look at the 60/40 seat in one of theirs.
How far into Ohio are you? Would you consider a swap if it was convenient? Just exploring options at this time.
I've got a gray 60/40 seat and would love to trade out for Captain's chairs. I'm in Houston if anyone is interested in a swap or knows where I could find someplace that sells the Captain's chairs (e-mail matt_ray@aimfunds.com). Thanks.
Would anyone know where to find the 3rd seat for a 97??? When I bought mine that seat was MISSING!!! I didnt' think it was a big deal since I wouldn't use it that much... but I kinda would like have one for just in case!!
