help verifying TPS part number

1988 E150 with 5.0
Last year I bought a TPS part number E6AZ-9B989-C or CX-1133

I don't remember where I bought it from but,, RA says it does not fit my van.. Amazon says it does not fit my van.. Oreilly says it does but then in their compatibility chart, it does not..
Motorcraft CX1133 - Throttle Position Sensor | O'Reilly Auto Parts

RA lists part number CX1228,,, E7TF-9B989-CA,,, E7TZ-9B989-D

Thanks'

Aren't you the one always finding this obscure info??

On RA, if you do a "Part Number Search" you'll see what you have -

Buyer's Guide : MOTORCRAFT CX1133 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
FORD COUNTRY SQUIRE 1987-1991
FORD LTD CROWN VICTORIA 1986-1991
FORD MUSTANG 1986-1993
FORD THUNDERBIRD 1986-1988
LINCOLN CONTINENTAL 1986-1987
LINCOLN MARK VII 1986-1992
LINCOLN TOWN CAR 1986-1990
MERCURY CAPRI 1986
MERCURY COLONY PARK 1987-1991
MERCURY COUGAR 1986-1988
MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS 1986-1991

And your right.........don't fit your van.

Think your looking for this one - MOTORCRAFT CX1228

Buyer's Guide : MOTORCRAFT CX1228 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
FORD BRONCO 1987-1995
FORD E-150 1987-1995
FORD E-250 1987-1995
FORD E-350 1988-1995
FORD F-150 1987-1995
FORD F-250 1987-1997
FORD F-350 1988-1997

Don't feel bad about this, I've gotten parts off ebay that were listed wrong before, and I really don't buy from amazon. I've gotten the wrong parts from RA before too, it depends on which "warehouse" shipped, and marked or re-boxed the part before shipping.

This holding up your re-assembly project??

NumberDummy is the wizard at correct part numbers and usually lists Ford dealers, Green Sales, and NOS who have the parts... Once i have the part numbers, i like finding the hard to find parts at the cheapest prices!
I was hoping that number dummy would chime in and tell me that the part would cross over.. But according to what I learned, it will not.
I bought it last spring and was going to change it then but it is now a year later and i am sure it cant be returned now.

No, its not holding up the job, just my billfold! I paid $25 for the CX-1133 and Oreilly has it in stock but wants $69+tax.

For future reference if anyone else finds themselves in a similar position..
That led me to check out the difference between the two parts. When I pick up the CX-1228 today, I will re check the ohm readings against my old TPS..

Physically the electrical plugs connect.

As for the TPS itself, it too fits on the throttle body. There is a round ring that has to be swapped over to the new TPS.. BUT you can see in the pics that the Orange and Black wires are swapped. The upper TPS being the correct CX1228 and the lower pic being CX1133

So I thought,, humm, $75 vers the one I already have, perhaps I can swap the Orange and black wires. Again I am going to ohm out the new one today to see which one it matches with but as of now the two different TPS's are not interchangeable. Perhaps if I were an engineer in that department I could tell you why they are different..

This pic is supposed to be the CX1228 TPS

RA is correct.
It took me a while to chime in...

E6AZ-9B989-C (Motorcraft CX-1133) is not listed in the 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog.

It's a good part number, because it's still available from Ford (MSRP: $47.91/Dealer net cost: $26.35), but it's incorrect for your van. So, it's for a car.

Look on your original for its marked ID engineering number, because there are TWO different types of these puppies.

1986/89 E150/250 & F150/250 & Bronco 302: E6TZ-9B989-A .. Potentiometer (Motorcraft CX-1126) / Marked: E6TF-9B989-AA / Obsolete ~ 36+ available NOS (none in jaw-jah).

Last MSRP: $89.48 ~ Dealer net cost: $44.74.
----------------------------------------------------
1987/89 E150/250 & F150/250 302/351W EFI: E7TZ-9B989-D .. Potentiometer (Motorcraft CX-1228) / Marked: E7TF-9B989-CA / Available from Ford

MSRP: $79.95 ~ Dealer net cost: $43.97 ~ autonationfordwhitebearlake.com online price: $48.37 .. This is the best price on the net for genuine Ford parts, cuz it's dealer net cost +10%

Thanks NumberDummy...
The only part numbers I can find on the old one are:
On the TPS itself right where the wires go in are the letters CTS.
On the TPS electrical connector is the numbers E7TF9B989CA space 7J09A

I installed the CX-1228 (E7TZ 9B989 D) because that is the one Oreilly had in stock or could get.

So if I understand correctly I did get the correct part... I thought mine was a
E150 Base but Orielly's shows the TPS only fits a 92-95 base..
They do show it fitting Custom, XL, XLT, along with any of the club wagons..

When looking at the
CX-1133 It appears to be for cars, Mustnag CV, TC Ect... 86-early 90's

Again thanks!

E7TZ-9B989-D is marked with ID engineering number E7TF-9B989-CA

Whew, I'm still not sure which is the right part.

Is the CX 1228 the right one for a 1990 e150 5.0 also?

I guess I'm a little thick.

Sorry for not seeing your post till now Vanner Dude

Let me try to condense all this.
First though and I am not sure what differance this makes but my 1988 E150 with a 5.0 and AOD transmission was actually manufactured in 09/1987.

So the engineering number on my old TPS connector (E7TF9B989CA) matched E7TZ-9B989-D .. Potentiometer (Motorcraft CX-1228)
So that is the part I used
