I am a retired Marine Capt. with a E350 V10 van. I wanted a boost to assist me in towing my 30' Toy Hauler with my Harley in it. I purchased a Banks Power Pack System, which their website said would fit this specific vehicle. Upon my mechanic opening the package, he noticed that it was engineered for a single cat system. Upon calling their Customer Service Tech Support, they said they do not run across, nor make a system for the four cats. Why is my van different than any other V10 that Banks says fits right up to Class A Ford motorhomes. Is there a way to engineer this system to the one cat they are referring to? I hate to give up the almost 100 extra horsepower this unit is supposed to provide the V10.
If I can't keep the Banks, any other suggestions; brain chips, etc.; that would help me gain power from this engine?
4 cats? Is that a California emissions thing? That was true for the old Jeep Cherokees (not the new cheap imitation). The later California models had 4 cats. Everybody else had one.
Might be why Banks doesn't make a kit for it. It would almost certainly not be legal in California. If you want to throw money at it, you can probably just replace the entire exhaust system with the single cat version. But, that wouldn't be legal, and if you are in a state that checks emissions, you'll be putting it back to stock pretty quickly.
I notice in their website that they do not list a product for the van, only for motorhomes. That might be the deal. Motorhomes might have different emisssions regs, so it might fit and be legal on them, but not on the van.
As for 100hp, I'm curious where you got that figure. The Banks website has an article where they claim 50.
181.9 hp at 4,408 rpm stock (lower line) to 229.6
As for chips..... save your money. If you were looking for 100 hp, you aren't going to be impressed with single digit gains.
I had already purchased the Banks kit based on their website AND talking to their tech support to MAKE SURE this kit was for my truck. Upon my mechanic realizing their was a problem, HE called Banks, they asked for pictures, and seeing the four cats, replied that this kit will NOT work/fit, and that they do not provide one for a truck with 4 cats. Off the record, they offered that others had retrofitted this kit, but had trouble with the O2 sensors, now missing multiple ones, the engine ran like crap.
As an old Jarhead, I know enough to be dangerous, but this is WAY out of my league. I have no idea what to tell the mechanic other than to take Banks up on their offer to take it back for a full refund. Without the EXACT technological expertise to defeat issues like the one above, neither I nor my mechanic have the confidence to rip this truck apart, only to be faced with it not working properly, and having to go through all the labor to put things back to 0.
I am perplexed that trucks EXACTLY my make and model, do not have this four cat system, and yet there is no basic foundational way for me to overcome it, or swap without a potential major headache.
