Hello new to forum and this is my first post. I did attempt to search for this answer and didn't find it...
For all the owners of the loaded trucks what are the most useful and least useful options for the truck?
I am about to purchase a 2017 and was trying to decide if some of the higher end options were worth the money (Ultimate package, KR Seats, Moonroof, towing options, etc.)
I realize this is just folks opinions but I was curious.
Good option (this is my opinion )
LED PACKAGE
I dont have it on mine but i sure miss it i had it on my f150
ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL i think its great but it has some flaws.
360 camera is also good this f250s are big
I dont have it on mine but maybe adaptive steering??
Like the moonroof..
Love the LED lights
Love the Adaptive Cruise
Adaptive steering I think I love.. but since I can't turn it off/on - it's hard to tell exactly what the effect is. But I do believe it takes less steering when backing my trailers into their spots. And assuming it does what they say it does, they did a great job of making it seamless.
Best option? 6.7L engine if you really NEED one
Worst option? 6.7L engine if you only WANT one
That aside, I marvel at the tech in today's vehicles in general, and trucks over-laden (my opinion) with all manner of do-dads. Today's trucks (in the personal market) are just glorified commuter wagons and have little risk of ever seeing real truck use. I'm OK with that if that is what your money is ear-marked for; it's not for me to tell someone else how to spend their money, unless they ask ....... which he did. I realize that some folks to work their trucks hard. But they are also guys that don't have use for leather seats, etc.
I just don't see the sense in some of these ultra-fancy features. Power-windows? Sure. Power door locks? Absolutely. Cruise control? Why not! But heated/cooled seats, electronic tail-gate locks, running boards that retract, mirrors that lower when in reverse, and a moon roof? Every piece of high-tech stuff is just another thing to break down the road, and cost more money. And some of this stuff today (such as the touch screens as just one example) are silly-expensive after warranty runs out.
Think of it this way:
In the F150 loaded up, a USB charging port and/or BlueTooth is standard but the "smoker's pack" (cigarette lighter and ash tray) is $95 option.
To quote a song from decades gone by ... Where have all the cowboys gone?
I really like cameras ( I use them all a lot) and tailgate step.I don't understand why you have to have crew cab to get lariat ultra (I have lariat supercab). I have moonroof in my car (2016 edge) that I never use.If lariat ultra without moonroof was available when I ordered my truck, I would be totally happy with my truck.
Thats why ford makes xl trucks for people like you. If someone wants fancy stuff why shouldn't ford sell options that people want?
I don't disagree at all; I believe strongly in a free-open market! If someone is willing to pay for that stuff, by all means have at it!
But he asked for opinions, and so I gave mine; too much crap on today's trucks. Nothing wrong with a few amenities to make life tolerable (windows, door locks, a/c, etc). But the loaded drippings of a Platinum belong on a Lincoln, not a truck, IMO.
There are so many options on my 2017 SD Platinum I doubt I will use them all. I bought my truck off of the dealerships lot and got a decent deal so I bought a truck that has a few option I don't care anything about. Such as the moon roof or what ever it' called. Heated and air conditioned seats I could do without along with the heated steering wheel. Some of this new technology is a little bit much for an old man and presents a challenge sometimes trying to figure out how it works. All of the camera has me looking cross-eyed every once in while trying to figure out what I'm looking at and what caused that beeper to go off.

I agree! Sometimes I think we all would be better off if the manufacturer would spend their engineering time and money on making the truck even more practical and serviceable. I'm a gadget guy myself but several option I could do without. On the on the other-hand I think the manufactures are wiping there butts with a wagon wheel trying to to stay ahead of the competition. They have a lot of bean counters just trying to figure out how to stay competitive.
I agree with jm-bc with the tailgate step, great option! I also had the skid plates added. I don't do off road but you never know what you will run up on. For $95 it's worth the peace of mind. I like the chrome package as well, it would just be your personal preference. Either way you will love your new truck!

The thing about it is, there are going to be about as many opinions as there are members here. The tailgate step is a great option. There's only one thing wrong with it in my case. I'm 6 feet tall and can't reach the step. The bed is a bit too tall for a lot of users.
IMHO the 360° camera package is something that is very useful evan if you don't tow all that much... Tailgate step useless unless you have an inseam of 36 or 38
