Hello I have a 2006 Ford f250 super duty with a 5.4 3v motor that is going out. I was wondering if anyone knew if I could just drop an older or newer 5.4 into it.
any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Just call your local junkyard that uses computers and the can tell you what years will fit with no mods or what mods required with other year models.
Your junkyards are that helpful in Texas? I get call all day from people who couldn't get help from the bone yard. They tell their customers to call me for the engine or transmission info.

It has 2 cylinders that don't compress all the way 1 cylinder that doesn't compress at all the timing chain is skipping and the camshaft sensors keep blowing out. I also have gunk build up on the back of the timing change manifold
In my opinion, you would be well off to score yourself a mid 2008 or later 5.4L 3-valve engine out of any F-250/F-350 to replace with. I say mid 2008 and later is because you will end up with an engine with the redesigned spark plugs that won't break off into the cylinder heads during removal, like the earlier model years were plagued with.
