hi perhaps somebody can help me.my 2006 ford ranger 2200 is flooding badly.it is so bad that when i pulled the carb off the petrol was pooled in the intake manifold.as far as i can see the needle and float are fine.
A carbureted 2006 model Ranger engine must be some kind of mod. SO, was the fuel pump also changed, so it's fuel pressure is in the range of a carb systems needs?
Or was the in tank fuel injected system fuel pump retained for use with the carb? If so, the fuel pressure is Way too high for a carb system, so is likely forcing fuel right past the float needle valve, as it can't begin to deal with 64 +/-8 psi of fuel pressure that the fuel injected system uses.
In any case check & post the fuel pressure value feeding the carb.
If the float is leaking, it won't float well enough to rise as the float bowl fills, so the over filling dumps right into the intake, corrupting fuel trim rich.
If there is any debris in the needle valve seat, or the rubber seal on the valve is damaged, it won't properly seat, or seal.
Some thoughts for consideration, let us know what you find.
2007 was the first year of fuel injection for the South African 2.2L Ranger. I agree with the above post that the float does not rise as the bowl fills up with fuel. Could be a leak of fuel into the float itself or just a heavy float loaded up with deposits on the outside of the float.
