The one with what looks like a speaker is the "flux capacitor" and the other one holds "dilithium crystals".

And, there is no horn relay on 1978/79 F100/350, Bronco & Econoline unless they have factory installed Speed Control.

1978/79 horn relay with Speed Control plugs into the amplifier.
OK, so in my case... My truck is a '79 F250 (originally 400 motor), I just pulled the dash a few days ago. Using the wiring diagrams from Fordification I identified what looks like the horn relay. What you're saying is that if I have a horn relay, the box it's attached to is for speed (cruise) control? The next question is: how much am I missing? How hard would it be to get it back onto the swapped 460?

The horn relay with factory installed Speed Control plugs into the Speed Control's amplifier, located on the inside of the firewall, adjacent to the fuse box and bottom of the steering column

But, if your truck does not have Speed Control (factory: the switches are in the horn pad), your truck does not have a horn relay.

What I know I don't have are a horn pad and anything resembling an actuator/servo on the throttle.

But I do have this:

Vinny, thank you for sharing the information. Looks like I have a defunct box, as my truck has an Edelbrock carburetor with no solenoids or other wires aside from the choke.

Does your truck have a stock steering wheel? Or was that swapped out too? Without more detailed photos of both the interior (steering wheel specifically) and photos under the hood it's pretty much impossible for us to tell you what else you're missing for the cruise control. Oh one other thing worth noting about the cruise control on these trucks. And I don't know how this would affect the horn relay maybe Number Dummy could she some more light here. But also offered a dealer add on/installed cruise control. And that required a replacement of the turn signal lever for one that housed the switches to activate the cruise control.

ALL 1973/79's F100/350's have a horn pad (that contains the horn switch), but only F100/350's with factory installed Speed Control have the switches within the pad.

Stock steering wheel (I think) but no horn pad and no speed control parts under the hood.

Has anyone figured out what the below black box does? I have one on my 77 w cruise the turn signals do not work, this box looks to be wired in line with turn signal switch.
4 way flashers do work( truck tail lights flash) and when I probe the out put side of the turn signal flasher it starts to flash how ever not the truck tail lights. I have cleaned all grounds I could find.

Well maybe NumberDummy can confirm that a D7AF-9D844-aa module is in fact a speed-controller for the CC.
That's certainly the same style of relay that Ford used for horns, but most of the ones I'd seen on other vehicles were under the hood. I like that these are mounted in a much more protected area. A surviving under-hood one is getting more and more rare these days.

I knew about the horn relay only with the CC (mine does not have either, so I wired in my own horn relay setup) all this time, but it's first time I've seen the factory install. Thanks for the pic!

E9AZ-9D843-A replaced EOAZ-9D843-A that replaced D8AZ-9D843-A that replaced D6AZ-9D843-A that replaced D4AZ-9D843-A

D6AZ-9D843-A
was marked D6AA-9D844-AA

FoMoCo is infamous for updating/replacing 10's of 1,000's of part numbers EVERY YEAR .. almost as often as women change their minds!

It was a PITA back then and still is today.
