Factory Hitch Classification

Does any body have any idea which hitch is factory installed on a 2017 F-250 SuperDuty King Ranch Crew Cab Pickup? Is it a class 1,2,3,4,5 etc? I can't find it on the window sticker, the dealer has given me 3 different answers!LOL

Where would I find this information?

the 2.5" AND the 3" receivers are BOTH rated as CLASS V (5)

the 2.5" is rated at 2700 lbs Tongue Weight and 20000 lbs Towing (higher if weight distribution is used)
the 3" can be rated as high as 4,000 lbs Tongue and 25,000 lbs towing

It should also be pointed out that just because a hitch says it has X capacity doesn't mean that the over all vehicle also has that same capacity. My F-350 may have a hitch rated to 25k but the overall vehicle has no more than 18k (likely less with the options taken into account) from what I understand.

Very true! How often do you see the smallest cheapest truck pulling a huge trailer! I should be able to pull around 12K lbs, should be perfect for that size load.

For what it's worth, here is a write-up on the different hitch classes: https://www.reese-hitches.com/learni...towing-classes

I'm not sure how up to date that is. If the hitch on my F-350 is class V then what Reese has is incorrect or simply out of date because Ford says that my 3" hitch can handle up to 18K.

If you notice the reese webpage doesn't mention anything bigger than a 2.5" receiver or drawl bar - because thats all they make.

3" receiver/hitches are STILL class V, since (today) there is no classification above class 5

Class V is the answer to the OP's question. But good point on how Class V is the highest class offered today. That should change as presumably RAM and GM will move to 3" hitches.

The 2.5" hitch on y old 2016 truck was rated to 19k if W/D was used.

The new 3" hitch on my dually claims 21k no W/D needed. Very impressive hitch.

I ordered a 3" shank WDH last week from Andersen. Eventually there will be more manufacturers that come out with 3" but right now the list is skimpy.

I actually went and measured mine and it is 3" not 2 1/2. But it does have an insert to make it a 2". Class V and the rating on the hitch is 21000LBS

these factory receivers are all over the place, I've seen some 350's w/ only a 2 1/2" and I can't figure out how they make the decision of which hitch to which truck.

My truck was delivered w/ a 3" receiver and TWO inserts, a 3" to 2.5" and a 2.5" to 2"....

This table may only be accurate for the Job 2 2017 models.
