I had a similar brace on the hood that was on my 48, but not on the second one I bought. Could have been taken off on the second hood, or could have been a design change at some point. The bracket its bolted to looked to be the bracket that the middle of the air deflector bolts to, so that should be original.
Thanks Roy
From what I have been told this is factory. Not sure about the angle iron welded to the underside of the hood, but I'll make it look good and keep it the way it is.
Thanks
Dan
Sorry I'm late to the party Dan. I've been trying to get the exploded views you needed posted, but my wonderful wife has done something to the laptop where I cant seem to transfer the pics off the disc except to print, but then I cant scan them for transfer??????(windows 10). It sounds as if you have your answers, but if needed I would be happy to mail the master parts disc to you for you to copy.
I like the topic as I just took my 48 hood apart. I had the lower brace on the grill but no brace on the hood. A. did the 48 have one, is it attached similar to the photos above? Seems easy enough to make, the hood had some metal stress cracks where the underside bolted together making me think it was missing something like this. many years of abuse without the brace would seem to make sense???
Thanks to all that replied. From what everyone says, It looks like the brace (with the twist) is factory.
Not sure about the angle iron welded to the hood that the twisted brace attaches to. To me, it looks like it was added by a P.O.. I am going to clean it all up and run with it.
