Hey guys,
I'm researching shocks for my 2017 F350/6.7/Fx4/plow prep truck. My truck is 99% commuter, 0.5% offroad, 0.5% pulling a light trailer. So, I'm mostly looking for a shock with good street manners, and acceptable off road and towing. From what I've read, my best choices are probably Rancho 7000 or Bilstein. I don't mind a stiff suspension, but hate bouncing or wobbling. Thoughts?
If you're planning Rancho, I would go with the Rancho 9000. The 7000 would be an improvement but only slightly over OEM shock performance. The 9000 series also provides the adjustment valve so you can tune the shock performance to whatever you're doing.
Having said that, Fox 2.0's are my current favorite. They have found the happy median between Rancho and the stiffer Bilsteins and do the best job at controlling rebound and bounce.
The Fox 2.0's might be the way to go. I have read really mixed reviews of the Rancho 9000 shocks. Some people love them, but others say they are too soft, at all settings, and there have been QC issues, especially with the adjustment ****. I don't plan to adjust them, whatever I have.
Take a look at the Fox Adventure series. It's similar to a Bilstein, which would be my second choice for your usage. Personally, id stay away from Ranchos, they tend to only last 20-30k and I don't think they're any good to start off with.
