It's about 600 miles away, John...................might be back up next week.
Being cheap...son said the gaskets arrived for my 87. Has a bent exhaust valve, figured on a valve job when I get back to NY. That engine has about 92,000 miles on it.
I bought my 87 in Waterloo but, it's Winters were spent in the South. Had about 52k miles on it, paid $2800. Put about $800 into it, new windshield, brakes, u-joints, 2 tires, etc.
not really, John. A machine shop guy said sometimes the valve stem seizes in the guide. First I've heard of that. Supposedly the ethanol gas doesn't have the lubrication in it.
I'll find out more when I dissect it. Tuned up the valve grinder last year, just have to find some ambition

Older trucks had that kind of trouble more often until Ford figured out how to deliver oil up to the top of the head. I am talking 60's though, not 80's

Hope I don't run into that problem with this one, seems to be idling a lot better now but smokes a lot when I first start it but might just be the Seafoam I put in the oil, as soon as it warms up the smoking stops..
