Engine swap??
Also bought a 97 7.3 to replace the windowed engine.
#1 will the heads on the 2002 work on the 97 block?
#2 can i use single shot injectors on the 2002 heads?
#3 is there a difference in the short blocks?
Thank you
1. They should be the same heads so Yes (if I'm not wrong) they will work
2. Yes you can, many people swap that over HOWEVER you must get the 2002 computer tuned for single shots if you use single shots with the super duty computer.
3. These are the differences in the blocks I can think of:
- The super duty short blocks had their connecting rods on the bottom end manufactured differently. It's often desirable to get an OBS block for the connecting rods were considered to be stronger.
- The super duty motors have a different front cover and HPOP. HPOPs are interchangeable between covers, and super duty covers should bolt up to OBS blocks
- The serpentine belt brackets are different between OBS and SD motors so the entire serpentine setup would need to be swapped between motors (should bolt on fine if swapping to the same front cover)
I am planning on only using the short block from the 97 and putting the 02 heads and other components on the 97. Will this work as long as I plug the extra hole in the block for the mechanical fuel pump??
