E4OD linkage removal

Installing Winters Sidewinder shifter.
Need to swap OEM linkage with theirs — directions only say to refer to tranny service manual (um, sure) to remove. Is it as simple as removing both nuts and sliding out?

The roll pin in the case will also have to be removed to get the linkage shaft out of the case.

a-ha!

may have just answered my own question...

assume it is staring at me in that second photo, right?
just pull it out and then re-use it when the new shaft is installed?

thanks for the heads up.

Yes thats right you will just reuse the roll pin, a small easy out or two small flat screw drivers is a good way to get it out.

Got new linkage installed. Thanks again for tip about roll pin.

Went ahead and made filter clip after reading stories of them slipping out.

One more question: install the new rubber pan gasket dry, or RTV? Read some folks use axle grease or Vaseline??

So which is PARK position — when selector is full clockwise or counterclockwise?

No rtv on the gasket.

Unless you like tearing them apart to figure out why 2nd gear doesn't work.

Ask me how I know.....

Install dry and torque to spec.

thank you...
i had it wrong (in my head) then -- when the line on the shaft was aligned to the "N" on the MLPS there were 3 clicks to the left stop, so i assumed it was counterclockwise to "P".

i thought the MLPS only slid on one way when i installed it, but perhaps i overlooked something?

If you look at your picture above with the new linkage shaft installed the park position will pull the manual valve out of the valve body and push the long park rod towards the extension housing. The output shaft should not turn at that point.

Set the transmission in neutral and set the switch to neutral, then install the switch on the shaft, the bolt holes should line up for the bolts at that point.

When I do that, the boltholes are slightly misaligned. To align them I end up with MLPS in this orientation Good?

The switch really needs to be lined up better, so something is off.
