Help with value please. 1951 F4

I have a Corvette and there is a guy wanting to trade a 1951 F4 towards it. I would just sell the F4 if we do the deal. I know there are a lot of factors involved but wanted help here. It does have a 350 crate motor in it.

Thanks guys

55 views and not a peep? Thought this place would be more helpful.

It is a good looking beast, as much as can be determined from one picture and a nine word description.

The larger trucks have a much smaller pool of potential buyers than the half tons. I'm unclear why anyone would make a deal more complicated than necessary. If this were my situation, I wouldn't take on the F4 unless I wanted to own it for 6 months or more.

He really has it pimped out doesn't he! Chrome grille, stacks, west coast Jr mirrors, exterior sunvisor, grille guard, fog lights among other things.

I have no idea what that truck is worth. But if you are selling your Vette, you should take cash instead of a truck you are not interested in and would be trying to sell. Tell him to sell it first, so he has the cash to pay you!

It appears to have the stock widowmaker wheels. That means it needs $2k - $3k in new wheels and tires. Something to keep in mind.

Agree with the others. Bondo in the seam between upper and lower fender says there are troubles elsewhere.

Sometimes new members ask questions that get no replies. There is generally a message to be found in such silence I think. Stu

Why do they have to be replaced if holding air and driving fine?

Um, because they make widows out of wives. At least one member of FTE has had a widowmaker explode while the truck was parked and empty. These wheels can be literal time bombs.

Feel free to google widowmakers.

+1 to these comments!!!

I think you would be lucky to get $10K out of that truck and I wouldn't put more than $5K in it on the trade... (if that..)

The widow makers are a negative whether you believe it or not. A buyer is going to beat you up on them. The crate motor is also, in my view. The further you get from original the less it's worth.

An F4 is not an F1. The pool of buyers looks more at originality than drivability. All those little tidbits actually detract from the value.

You wanted numbers.... just my opinion...

OK, I'll give my thoughts. The F4 makes a good size truck for daily use and work. It will have a 10K GVWR, strong enough to do some meaningful work by today's light truck standards. But, to be useful, it needs to be repowered as you indicate that truck is. It also needs to be regeared. Otherwise, you have a woefully slow, 45 MPH truck, way too slow for modern traffic. Many folks who are going to play with an old truck will PB, PS, and AC, all correctly done.
Widowmakers! If you are not willing to accept the inherent dangers of them, forget the deal.
You tell us very little about the truck as shown.

I agree for the big trucks. Hard to believe Ford would try to get away with the same engine in an F-4, 5, 6 as they used in an F-1. The market for completely stock large trucks is a really slim portion of the market today.

And while some might think a chevy motor enhances the value, there are those that don't.

Later!

I appreciate all the replies. I did not give a lot of information because I don't have a lot of information yet. I do know the guy bought the truck in Indiana and drove it back to North Carolina two years ago which to me is insane. Worst case scenario it will make a good conversation piece out front of my business

Well

Took it in on trade today. Ended up donating it to a church/charity.

Thanks for all the wonderful help here.
