Getting ready to leave Moab this morning in my 2001 PSD Excursion, and it won't start:
1) Battery light is on, but no WTS, and no other dash lights other than ABS, IIRC
2) Noticed last night that 4WD switch wasn't causing it to go in 4WD.
3) Fuse 30 under the dash is good.
4) Will crank at what seems like close to normal speed. Initially, it would start and run for a second or two, then quit, now it won't even do that. It just cranks with the starter.
My first suspect would be to check the batteries while someone is cranking the truck. I believe there needs to be at least 10.5 volts for the truck to fire up.
Was it running fine other than the 4x4 switch when you arrived?
Thanks man. Yeah, I towed my trailer over from Denver earlier in the week, and drove it 60 miles yesterday. When I went to move it last night it behaved normally, but nothing happened when I turned the 4WD switch, which I thought was odd.
The batteries are at Oreilly's being checked now.
My next step will be to pull the F6 chip, just in case.
not getting wait to start indicates no power to pcm. Can't remember but think the 2001 is set up same as my 2000 with under hood fuse panel. If it is Check fuse 24 under hood. Try swapping out PCM power relay.
Do you have power to your dash power port/cig lighter? In some trucks this is the same fuse as PCM.
If it blows....
From someone who has used his share of spotlights, this seems like a setup for failure. Plug something too big or too long into the cig lighter plug, truck dies and won't start
Check your oil and fuel levels. Too low oil, erratic HPOP to power injectors.
Do you have Torque Pro or AE or anything with you? It can monitor those, plus batt voltage.
Do your power windows work? Low battery and they'll die. Try the horn.
Windows work, as.does cigarette lighter. 4wd switch does nothing. My underhood fuse box looks different than tbe one posted above. Anyone have a layout for an 01? Its on the lid, but it won't open far enough to read.
So, fuse 18, if I've counted correctly, was blown. Replacing it returned dash lights to normal, and it started right up.
What's fuse 18? Its a 10a fuse in the center section of the under dash panel, and is the lowermost in the group of 7 fuse locations, with a blank space below it, then 2 more fuse locations.
BTW, thanks for everyone's help. You guys are the best people on the internet. And I know 'em all. :-)
