I finally bit the wallet and got my truck to the paint shop. I was there the other day talking to the guy about the body work and got to the doors. The drivers door has many holes around the perimeter where it appears the inner door panel would attach to, but these holes are not on the passenger door. My truck is a 55 f100 custom cab. Did only the drivers door have inner door panels? From everything I can tell both doors are original to the truck with all the same layers of paint down to the original.
I would post pictures but I did not have my camera with me the other day.
Both doors had the cardboard panels on the deluxe cabs in 53 and 54 and the Custom Cabs of 55 and 56. Perhaps your passenger door came from a standard cab truck at one time.
I agree with Abe. It sounds like one of the two doors were replaced with one from a different cab model. Some door cards are available for the 55 model.
Dang I was hoping they were both original due to them having the same paint all the way to metal. Thanks for the info, I will search around for some templates to drill the correct holes.
