i moved this post here b/c i did this to my 79. actually i yanked a motor and dropped the whole thing in like it was once bcause i thought the setup was so slick. i used the serpentine system off a 89 ford crown vic. 5.0, i used the big alt, waterpump, bracket and powersteering system. i bolted the poweresteering hose right to the pump, there are a few different variances in pumps th era like with the lincolns, but found all the stuff real cheap at a bone yard. it came off a 5.0 but i had no problem bolting it to my 351, i had to extend the alt wires and plug em in to make sure i was getting a charge but that was about it, no more squealing v belts.
Thanks for the info! Does anyone see any reason I couldn't do this with my 72 351w? Is this configuration exclusive to the crown vic 5.0 in case i can't find one at my local boneyard? The pump bolted right up to the 351 huh? What about the alternator, does it have more amps than stock? Also, asthetically speaking, how does it look? It may seem superficial but if you can have a trick seetup like this that also LOOKS good, that would be cool as well. Nice to hear that oooooohhhhh when you open the hood! Thanks again for the tip!
I've been wondering about this on my '86. I'd also need to make A/C compressor work with this too. I just replaced compressor with one off a crown vic this week and had to change clutch/pulley
because it used a serp. setup. The guy I got the compressor from is parting out a few old fords and has some 302's that he knows of and is looking for a 351 for me. He is selling stuff pretty cheap cause he needs money. I bet I could get the stuff cheap, but any expertise would be nice. If you have time, I'd like to know some more particulars about it, and any problems you ran into. I.E. Do you think a 302 system would fit a 351, or would the taller engine cause bracket alignment problems?
