Help ID engine
Please forgive my newbie question. My 2001 Ranger XLT says 2.3 litre under the hood. Is this the new one that has 135 HP? I thought Ford changed the engine mid yr 2001. How can I tell if this is the newer I4?

Hi Vegas, welcome to FTE!
If your engine says 2.3L, then you have the newer DOHC 4V "I4" engine (135 HP @ 5050, 153 LB/FT @ 3750).
The other 4 cylinder offered that year was a 2.5L SEFI engine, which, as you mentioned,was replaced by the new I4.
