Hi all. Just heading out for a road trip. 30 min in my radio shuts off and i notice my whole instrument panel is dead. A couple min later it comes back on. Then a couple min later it shuts off. Im pulled over now not knowing if i should keep driving. Any ideas please
I would bet that your power windows also go dead while this is happening.
You don't say what year your truck is but there is a retained power accessory circuit in the instrument cluster that can go out.
www.Curcuitboardmedics.com can help you out and fix the problem.
My 06 did the same thing. Try not to shut it off when the IC is dead. On restart the trans and engine would not work right on my diesel.
When I sent my IC in for rebuild I bought a used one to use while it was being rebuilt. Circuit Board Medics now has an exchange program so you can get a rebuilt one sent to you then send yours back to them as a core.
Where are you located now? What year is your truck?
Hi Thanks for the reply. My truck is a 06, 6L PS. 6 Speed man. IAt the time this happened, I removed the cover under the steering wheel to expose the dash wiring harneses and made sure the connectors were tight. This seemed to solve the problem till yesterday.
Now the dam thing is shutting off power to the dash more often and staying out longer..
Items affected are, instrument cluster, radio, power windows. The engine seems to run fine.
Thank you BOBV60 for your feedback
It would be great to get a bit more feedback on this before I tear the IC out. Thanks Again ALL
Give circuit board medics a call, they are good people and will help you out and save you money. Your symptoms are the same as my 06, about 99% sure you have an IC problem
I just thought I would add to this thread. I had the exact same problem with gauges and radio shorting out. It killed the truck completely once. I spent a little time under the hood while we were stranded and found the short while tinkering with all the battery wires. On the passenger side in front of the battery (closer to the engine) there's a power distribution block. On top of that there is a single bolt. I touched that bolt and things started working? It was very loose. I finger tightened it and it nothing worked. I unscrewed it enough to get everything working and got the truck home. Tightened that bold snug and not problems since. Not sure why it was loose? Doesn't seem like a high vibration area of the truck? It may not be a problem for this situation, but it is a spot to consider if you're having dash gauge problems.
