Got a start

It has been a year and a half since I started coming to this forum. I have enjoyed the comments and the subjects discussed. I was able to get the hood to my 50 F-1 delivery painted today. My son and I have been putsing with it for over six months and I decided it was time to turn it the right color. Now that it is done I want to get the trim back on but some of the clips were broken or missing all together. The Ford emblem that goes between the spears on the side of the hood needs to be replaced{ left side}. I want to locate a source for the retainers for all the trim on the hood and locate the left hood handle that actuates the hood release. And then there is the ever persistant problem of locating front fenders. Mine are of no use. I shouldn't have gotten the hood done because the I want list is going to get out of hand.

When I installed my hood trim I used threaded clips that have a kind of "S" clip on the end. I didn't want to chip the paint like the original type clips would as they were going throught the holes. I also made some thin rubber gaskets to prevent the trim pieces from scraping the paint. I got the clips from NAPA.

Hey Guys,
What I need to do is become a little more computer literate and start developing a site like Earl. I'm too busy chasing after aircraft though to sit down and get it all done. My son just lets me know that I got lucky with the hood turning out as it did. He had a hand in it but it was my frustration of seeing it sitting there that got me to finish the hood up. I have a lot of patience but body work takes an extra talent to do well. Anyone that does it for a living has my respect. I am looking into the fastenners from NAPA. I have an AUVECO catalog and have located the clips there. Take care .

I used to do body work in Minnesota, so I know what you are talking about. They make patch panels. But if they are beyond that, believe it or not, there are metal benders out there in Minnesota that could basically fab and splice into what little you have left of your fenders. But it costs money. A possibly cheaper approach would be to start searching for better used fenders west of you, in the Dakotas. Start with someone like Hazer's in West Fargo.
Good Luck!
Brett

I live forty-five miles south of Fargo and am aware of Hazers. I have gone as far west as Wishick to locate fenders. Patience will prevail in that when I least expect it I will come accross a front clip somewhere and will have what I need. I have plenty to do before I'm ready to attach the front sheetmetal. The only reason the hood is done is a teaser to inspire us to get on with the project; it works.
