found the vin #
Found the vin # on the drivers side frame rail just opposite from the oil drip stick. letters and numbers about 9 1/2 miles long.

MD - Mercury M-47
83 - Pickup 114" wheelbase
H - Built in Ontario
50 - Made in 1950
12971 - consecutive truck built
Hope it helps. Probally the most common part missing from 40's to 1960 is the vin plate.

It would be Ottawa Ontario where every Mercury was built (I think). I don't think 2 years would matter much. Probally a previous owner thought is was a 48 so he registered it as one. The prevous owner thought my '51 was a 49!
