460 Valve Cover Gaskets

Time to do the valve cover gaskets and looking for recommendations. Cork? Rubber? Good brands, bad brands?

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

There is a discussion on this a few days back. I have the aftermarket cast aluminum valve covers on my truck and I like the FlePro cork with the metal insert. I use 3M yellow adhesive (Gorilla Snot) on both sides. It's not too difficult to remove/clean later.

If you have the stamped steel valve covers, I would just use a 3/8" bead of RTV.

Rubber is best, but more expensive. The oil attacks the rubber and it swells up, making the seal tighter.

I will only use rubber for valve cover gaskets. Cork is a frustrating waste of time as you'll be doing it again sooner than later.

I dunno, had the same cork gaskets for 20 years, popped them off dozens of times. They never leak. It's all about installing them right and don't overtighten. Problem today, good cork is getting harder to find. A lot of rubber products are junk today too come to think of it.

Maybe on stock valve covers.
