2017 Explorer PowerTrain questions..

Hello -

I'm looking at the 2017 Limited Edition Explorer for my wife. Primary use is running the kids around - so local commutes around Houston - and maybe a couple of road trips thru TX and to/from FL during the year.

I'm leaning towards the 2.3L ecoboost over the 3.5L v6 and would welcome any comments related to the pros and cons of the 2 engine choices.

I'm also leaning towards AWD over FWD - primarily for better traction control in wet weather. I'd welcome your feedback here as well.

Thank you very much for any feedback.
Aaron

The 2.3 is a good engine but the transmission paired to it is junk. Also the PTUs have been problematic so go with FWD unless you absolutely need AWD. IMO the 3.5 FWD is the way to go for long term reliability.

Thanks for the feedback. That is the same setup my mechanic recommended. Thank you.
