I have a 2013 F150 3.5 ecoboost FX4 with the tow package, towing limit is 9600 with WDH . Just bought this TT 2010 Keystone RV Summerland 2600TB Dry weight is 4740 according to the manufacturer`s plate. My question is this ; I`m going to get the WDH but the dealer i bought the trailer from sells Husky TS hitches for around $500 installed . Is that a good brand and reasonable price ? Thanks for any answers and advice.
4740 is pretty light but I would still get a WDH just to have a piece of mind and if you ever decide to get a larger camper your already set up. I bought an equalizer WDH and love it. Works great and glad I went with it.
I have a Blue Ox WDH that came with my trailer. I had never heard of them before. It seems to work just fine. The only rule I would follow when buying a WDH on Craig's List or eBay is that it has to come from a manufacturer that I can easily identify in a Google search. You might someday need parts. For example, I probably need a stouter bar for mine. The current ones are 1,000 lb but something heavy than that may be better.
Thanks for all the replies and advice. I`ll admit i`m leery of buying off of craigslist having never done it . I going to pick up the trailer Friday and tow it about a 100 miles to my buddies place . Since this is my first travel trailer i wanted to be on the safe side.
I buy and sell on craigslist, not a lot, but enough. There are scammers just like in every arena. I rarely have people come to the house, google the phone number of the buyer and always do the transactions at a public place, usually a busy gas station. If they cannot put together a complete sentence in their posting, I skip that posting. Actually met some very good people through the years, but am cautious on all transactions.

Are you buying from a dealer? If so, they should get you a good price on a WDH and set it up for you with your truck before you leave. That's what I did and had a piece of mind it was setup correctly. Might not be the cheapest, but it will be installed right. Your call.
I don't know the whole story on the hitch in that video. It's possible that they were sold an undersized hitch which contributed to the failure of the hitch. The trailer was not a light one. Maybe the hitch was incorrectly setup. It's hard to tell. I have a couple items from Husky and they seem to be good quality so I'm not necessarily knocking Husky. I skipped around on the video a bit so I didn't catch the exact specs on the hitch itself.
Again thanks for all the replies . Yes the dealer will install and show me how to adjust the hitch. part of the reason i want to buy one from a dealer ; also my nephews will more than likely borrow the trailer so i can help them . In the video i missed who installed the hitch originally is it possible to over tighten it to make it crack? There was an impact wrench in the back round and wonder if it was over torqued.
Yes, it is possible to put too much force on the torsion bars. You can aim the hitch way backwards which gives you a lot more room to pull up on the bars which may be too much force. If you raise the tongue up after connecting the bal,l but before attaching the bars to the trailer, you can apply even more force. Raising the tongue is a normal technique so you don't have to work so hard (and make it a bit safer) attaching the bars to the trailer. But you can take it too far.
