I want to add some gauges to my truck. ( going with volt, oil pressure, and water temp)Thoughts on what I want to use. Looking for preferences. Mechanical or electric. I already have factory gauges but would like to see numbers instead. Going with an A pillar setup modified to fit.
I prefer mechanical gauges over the electric ones.
Now any good gauges I think will be too large to fit in the pillar pod.
And mechanical will be a pain if it can even be done to run to the pillar.
So if that is were you want to mount them you may have to go electric and run wires.
I also would not buy the cheap no name sets you find in parts stores.

Little to go wrong? I had a mechanical oil pressure gauge in an old Dodge Omni once. When it "went wrong", needless to say it wasn't a pretty sight inside the passenger compartment. I'm just lucky it wasn't, say, hot oil all over my bare leg. Maybe an electric gauge is more prone to failure, but the STAKES are much lower.

And I bet you where using that cheap plastic tubing that comes with the gauge and I am not a betting man.
The first time I tell any one when I see the plastic tubing is get it replaced ASAP!
Over time it dries out, gets brittle and breaks and if lucky just a mess.
Unlucky oil over a hot motor and you have a fire and no more car/truck.
They make a copper line kit and I use that on anything I have in place of the plastic line.

This was copper. I don't think the mechanical gauges in the '80s had nylon/plastic tubing.
I had a dune buggy early 80's that had plastic, after it broke twice I went copper and not looked back.
I have not heard of copper failing unless it rubbed on something.
Did you add a few loops in the engine bay before it passed through the firewall?
The loops stop the line from flexing and failure.

Had a '58 Chevy, and in about '65 or '66 I put aftermarket gauges on it. And the oil pressure line was certainly plastic, as it burned through against the exhaust manifold. What a mess!
Anyway, plastic line has been around a long, long time. But I don't like it.
