Engine
Stamp is D7TE-A2B.
Which informations can be read out of that?
The VIN of the truck shows a 351 engine as original, F14 HNO 64420.
Thank you guys
Gerhard
while helpful, that code is just the design number or "part" number for that block. D7 translates to '77 and T just means that it was intended for a truck and said part is an engine hence the E.
All together, D7TE designates a: 400/351M, 4 inch bore, Big block (429/460) bellhousing pattern, and 10.297 deck height.
If you want to know more about when exactly that piece of metal was born, look either near the oil pressure switch/sender or rear of the block passenger side near the starter area. Should be like 3 or 4 code made up of digits and letters. For example 8M21 means the exact date that specific engine was produced would have been December 21st, 1978.
be careful overheating that guy though. I dont remember the cut off date but those year engines were pretty damn fond of cracking heads due to something about poor water jackets. I could be wrong but I seem to recall reading about that in a ford service manual.
The fourth digit - H - denotes a 351M engine.
Blocks cast up to and touching 07 March, 1977, at the Michigan foundry were prone to cracking the water jacket in the lifter valley.....Not all have cracked, though.
Blocks cast in the Cleveland foundry did not have this problem.
You'll find this designation by the date code on the block by the oil sending unit....as described above.
