After extensive experimentation, the only way I have found is to put a 100 ohm 5W resistor between the brake control line and ground. You can do this inside a dummy plug plugged into the trailer 7 pin. You also have to set the brake control to electric over hydraulic in the dash settings.
The system shuts off the backup assist when it senses a trailer brake connected. That is either a very low resistance (with electric brakes) or a higher resistance (with EOH brakes). 100 ohms sinks enough current to fool the EOH, hard to sink enough to fool the electric without a very large resistor (100W 5 ohms or so). Some have just plugged in a spare electric brake coil (effectively a very large resistor).
I put the 100 ohm inside my slide in camper connector, otherwise it complains continuously anytime I select reverse.
If you have the productivity screen, there is an option to turn it off for that occurance only while in reverse. Or you can go in and turn it off permanently.
I can turn mine off for the current reverse but not permanent from what I've found. I'd like to turn them off as they are POS's and I have 2 failed ones. I had 4 replaced under warranty.
I know you can turn it off when in reverse for that time. And as it turns out, the option in driver settings is also temporary, which I though would have been permanent...

You would think....
I've been searching all week how to disable it permanently. What I don't understand is I can turn off my seat belt minder permanently, but not the backup alarm.
I know that it's a PITA when towing, but I wouldn't Premanently Disable it.
It has saved my Butt many times and continues to do so. It is especially useful in large Parking Lots when you're backing out of a space, and some Moron decides to walk right behind you
When you turn it off via the "productivity" screen, it is off until the next key cycle. Then it comes back on again. Unless you make the plug I suggested above. Then it is off until you unplug the plug.
