'00 bake pads bad?

I noticed on the interstate today that when I put on the brakes lightly I hear a grinding sound... are my pads bad, or is it in the rotors? I also notice the same sound when I turn to the left at higher speeds. any help is always appreciated!

It could be the pads, most pads have a little metal scraper that makes noise before you start grinding into the rotors, could also be wheel bearings.
