hey guys, new to the forum. So I bought a 62 short bed uni last summer, it's been worked on a bit with a 5.0L swap and 8.8 rear end but that's it so far. I drove it as is last year but the stock drums leave more than a little to be desired, especially since I live in a city and people don't respect the non-stopping power of an old truck. Long term I'm planning on building a frame with ifs and nice big aftermarket brakes, but for now I'm thinking of getting the Speedway Motors disc brake kit and a power master cylinder kit. Anyone have any experience with this stuff? Thanks guys!
Hi I have a '62 uni that I installed the Speedway kit on. I used a '67 F100 master cylinder and a combo valve for a '73 Chevy truck. There is no need for a power booster. My truck stops true and straight with not much pedal pressure.
One thing on installing a IFS. It is a very costly and involved project to get into. If you think that you absolutely have to do the swap, consider using a front frame section from a late model Ranger with the rack and pinion steering. The frames are the same width and would give you everything that you would need to bring your truck up to date and it would be a lot easier to buy parts for.
