55" Back in the works
I got the full set up for Toyota power steering going in and already swapped out the front springs for monos. Took apart the rears for clean up and put that rubber/teflon lining in it from Mid Fifty. Shocks are on the way with tie rod and a few other parts. I'm keeping it pretty stock I decided against IFS but had a question for ya'll. I was going to swap to disc brakes but should I go just te disc brake kit or full power disc brakes. I'm on a budget and the poewr disc is significantly more but wanted to know what you guys thought. I have a rebuilt drum set up now which works fine but my wheels that were sent from Vintage Wheels were the wrong ones and they wont take returns. I have a 9" in the rear so the bolt pattern they sent me is 5x4.5 all around and since I'm stock up front those won't work.
I could always just buy two more wheels that fit and keep the drums. I'd love any feedback. It sure feels good to work on my baby again. =)
I used the ECI disc brake kit on my 49. Quick easy install. I just bought the basic kit as I already had the calipers. As for power or manual, I went power on my truck I also am running a high torque big block and figured that stopping power might be a good thing. I built my own hanging assy and used the power booster from a mid 90's Ford Focus coupled with a early 80's Caddy master cylinder. The brakes feel great
Are you looking at keeping the brake system under cab along the frame or are you going to hang it on the firewall?
Sorry to hear about your driver getting swiped
Bobby
Yes I have a 9" on there now so my bolt pattern is smaller in the rear and stock up front. I ordered wheels to match that but they sent me the wrong ones and won't accept returns (thanks Vintage Wheels). So I can put in disc brakes but I was looking at cost. Mid fifty has a full kit for like $700-$800 for the whole deal. I might just bite the bullet and spend the money for it.
It's been one setback after another and I've contemplated giving up and selling her off but never did it. I spend so long looking for a decent Ca truck so I'm going to stick with it. The car theft did set me back but it's funny to be involved in another scene (as opposed to the classic car/F-100 scene) it's very different and very shady. It was a 99' Acura Integra pretty fixed up. Stolen in 2 hours after me getting home but thanks to LoJack it was recovered in hours. Although the interior was completely stripped. Ohh well... this only brings my focus back to the truck. I've never had any issues like that with any of my other trucks.
I'll keep ya'll updated. I love this site!
