Engine ran fine until batt died. Vehicle then sat from Nov to May with no battery in it.
On start up now after install of new batt, engine initially surged at idle and seemed to miss (run rough) in gear/under load. No CEL or codes.
After a single short drive idle and running under load seemed to have improved a bit, but not yet back to what I would call normal.
QUESTIONS:
Is this simply a matter of the computer having to relearn after battery disconnect?
Will driving restore things back to where they were/should be?
How much driving/How far?
Definitely check your filters and gas like they've suggested. It's also possible that moisture had gotten into your coils or coil boots causing it to short out. I'd pull each cop and see what they look like.
Sounds like old gas. Gas with ethanol in it goes bad fast. Pump the tank new fuel and fuel additive for cleaning. Change the filter After you run it hard.
In answer to the fuel question, Yes, it was/is old fuel. Thanks for all the suggestions!
I am now able to report that problem has appeared to have corrected itself (w/o having added any fresh fuel) by driving it on multiple trips; both city and highway.
Have to assume that either a) the computer synched with the engine, or b) the engine synched with the computer?
The tail pipe was covered/capped back in November to keep the critters out.
I would agree that the V10 engine is at best "finnicky" and at worst "high maintenance."
Since I acquired this truck in May of 2015, and during the course of putting only 2,000 miles on it, I have come to learn a whole lot about OBD codes. At 140K on the odometer I am now taking a crash course in P0171!
