The depth of the bed is 2 inches deeper and it's definetly higher from the ground up. Not sure how much but I'd say at least 2 inches. The bed depth creates the issue. You lose that clearance over the bed rails because of it.
Hopefully the factory installed hitch plate will be raised the 2 inches to make up for it??? this will be fun.. jeez new thing to have to worry about!!
This whole issue with the truck height going up is making me rethink buying new. I don't yet have my fifth wheel, but will be buying one within a year for a long road trip to Alaska. I know I have to have another truck--my 6.2L F250 won't work. And I'd definitely buy new, but with all the issues getting the hitch right with the 2017s, now I guess I'll have to go used or find a '16 that's been sitting forever on a lot. I really don't understand the thinking behind the drive to make these trucks so tall.
I'd say kinda dramatic ditching the awesome '17 because of this. It's an easy adjustment either at the pin box or hitch if yours is height adjustable.
Fords are notorious rear end saggers anyways, so slide down a bolt spot on your pin box, might take two slot downs (bolt loca's) maybe.
I have a Reese 25K elite series on the middle height setting. I elected the pinbox drop instead of raising the hitch mainly bc I want it to fit under the Retrax Pro tonneau cover, handle included.
So this is not a terminal problem, easy tweaks will adjust to meet the new truck.
On 13 450 I had 7 1/2" camper to bed rail on 17 450 I have 6 1/4".I just hit the bed rail with pin box.Turn was all most 90 I should not have tried it.Damaged plastic only.Only way to get more clearance would be to raise hitch would make trailer nose high.Better option is pay more attention when turning so short.
