I'm posting this because I have never seen this before, and wouldn't believe it if I had not seen it myself. A truck driver at my work purchased a used 2011 F250 4x4 6.2L with 149k on it from the dealer. As is no warranty. He drove it 2 weeks and the motor locked up. The dealer pretty much told him they hate it for him but that's his problem. So here I am putting a motor in for the guy. I run to the Salvage yard and pick up a motor with 125k on it for $2700 tax included. I came back and disassembled the truck. The pictures speak for themselves.
So, either the person that traded this in is responsible or the dealer is. But when the pulley on the belt tensioner failed, it chewed through the front timing cover. Where the timing chain commenced to eat the belt and it all ended up in the oil pan. Then the smart fella, who ever it was, just slapped a tensioner on it and let it roll. Nevermind the oil leak or any of that.
Aside from the damage, the first thing that caught my eye is that the tensioner pulley is mounted backwards.
I would think that had to make a lot of noise.
So the trash in the oil pan is all rubber belt?
There is more engine belt in the oil pan than anything else. They pulley that's on it didn't have any marks on it like it had made contact with the cover. The bolt that holds the pulley did. But there is some fine metal shavings. The customer had told me that he didn't notice anything but a oil leak. But after talking to the dealer about it after he bought it, they said they couldn't look at it till after the holidays because they were booked up. He said that a day or 2 later he was driving and it got noisy, then stopped running. Can't imagine why.

Reason: Added to it
I am thinking of a way to add a 3/16 steel plate in there using those two closest timing chain cover bolts. im thinking get some dimensions and get it water cut then bend it so its one piece... or..Devcon a flat piece on there ...
Either way... some sort of protection needs to be devised for other 6.2L's our there. I for one did not pay for, service, and thoroughly enjoy my 6.2 for it to be eaten by a pully!
So, did someone actually cut off one of the mounting ears on the belt tensioner in order to get it to mount backwards?
It doesn't appear to be possible to fit the tensioner on backwards, or else the arm would point the opposite direction.
My observation is that the pulley shown in the pictures is bolted to the tensioner arm backwards, or upside down would be a better description.
