Only had my '68 half-ton for a few days but am hard at it, getting it up to snuff so it's dependable and looks good at the same time.
Took the steering wheel out today, lots of cracks but still in one piece and it's straight. I've used Bondo to fill cracks, more or less rebuild old wheels but this time I'm trying something different. Bondo tends to shrink a slight bit, some cracks appear again, slight but are there, I'm trying an epoxy wood repair putty made by JB Weld, a stick that you cut off then knead with the fingers, it can be pressed and forced into cracks and seems to fill them completely. Not supposed to shrink at all... we'll see.
Tomorrow we'll grind some excess with a small Dremel sanding wheel, then hand sand smooth, then several coats of acrylic enamel, off-white in my case.
Stay tuned ... we'll see how this pans out.
i have fixed alot of crack steering wheels, had god luck with epoxy and fiberglass,jb weld works good but hard to sand, post some pictures before and after,
