I need new tires for my 98 4x4 SC ranger w/ off-road pkg (16X7'' wheels). I now have 235/70s and 3.73 LS. My free GY Wrangler ATs only have 35K on them but 1 has punctured and Ive been using the spare, the rest have worn abnormally, 2 are cupped, the other 2 are worn in the center despite never being overinflated, anyway...
I want to put 265/75/16s on assuming they fit. What effect if any will this have on my gearing? Do I need to change anything, if so what?, why?, and how much $?
I also want new shocks, my stock Bilsteins have about had it. Any suggetsions would be appreciated.
Jim, 265/75r16 are the biggest tires you can put on 7" wide wheels. The 235/70's are 29" tall and the 265/75's are 32" tall. That will make a difference in your gearing. What size motor and what trans do you have? The biggest factor will be if your engine has enough power to make up for the gearing change. If you have a 4.0 v6 you may be ok but the 3.0 will struggle to go up hills or tow something heavy. 4.10 gears might be the way to go.
