Quick question.

Doesn't a new cab result in a new title?

not in New Jersey. here we go by the frame VIN.
when you buy a cab you get the cab with no VIN plate or title, you have to use your old VIN plate and title.

Frame VIN is the one that matters. These aren't unibody cars.

You guys threw me a curve so I'll have to have more..

When they check ownership of your vehicle, they read the VIN in the typical location.

It's on your title, insurance card.

I've never heard of a frame VIN except on motorcycles..

Tell me more about this frame VIN.

Where is it on the frame?

Don't ever remember seeing a number recorded on any of my paperwork.

Always assumed a cab change (legal), resulted in a identity change for the vehicle.

VIN plates are removable?

the VIN is stamped on the frame, usually on the passenger side near the front cab mount.
very hard to find unless you know exactly where it is supposed to be. and even then you usually need a wire brush, and cleaning fluid to see it.

It varies by location. Where I live frame vin is meaningless. It goes by the vin on the cab.

Frame vin on these trucks is on TOP of the passenger frame rail. About 12" behind the front cab mount.

There is also a Vin tag riveted to the cab , driver side behind windshield.

The there is the sticker in the drivers door jam with the Vin

Another tag riveted or stapled to the firewall near the wiper motor or to the radiator support.

One last one stapled to the front of the bed between the bed and the cab on the passenger side
