5 days and 300 miles after I picked up my new $60k F350, my daughter in law asked to borrow it to pick up a slide and swing set. Remembering back to my '14 F150, that she put the 1st scratch in, I let her know I wasn't ready to lend it out just yet. I guess my granddaughter will be permanently scarred.
I know the best way to make friends is buy a truck, but really?
So I was wondering, what did you say the first time?
last time I let someone "borrow" my truck I drove and they loaded and unloaded it. I still ended up with a few decent sized dents where they dropped things while reaching over the bed sides. They offered to pay to fix it, but I laughed it off and said it's a truck, I cannot see myself laughing off things in this new truck, at least until I put the first few dents and dings in it myself, lol...
Nobody borrows my truck either. My wife drives it no problem but she's been driving my trucks since 2007 so I have no worry with her. She is extra careful with it because she knows my reaction if it ever comes back damaged lol.
My friends and family know better than to even ask. I won't even valet park it (and not because I'm being cheap). If someone were to ask, my question to them would be "is it really worth putting up with how pissed I'd be if something happened to it, regardless of who's at fault?"
I did let my son drive it to prom, but he didn't really enjoy it because he was worried about it the whole time, haha.

I don't let anyone other than my wife drive my truck. As far as the first person to scratch/dent/puke in the truck, that would be my oldest kid who is 12. 3 days after buying the new truck in March we went to hook up the RV. I asked her to grab the wheel chocks so she swung open the passenger door right into one of those concrete barrier poles used to protect HVAC units at the RV storage lot. Ding #1.
Like many other forum members I don't lend out my truck. I may drive and help, mainly to ensure that I don't get any dings. I do tell people to load/unload across the tailgate, not over the bedsides.
Just because I own a truck doesn't mean I'll help you move.
Best things I've heard and said when asked are prolly:
"hey it's your insurance"
"you pay my deductible"
"pay bail if you get pulled over, I think it's still grand theft" (truck wasn't mine, trailer wasn't mine or his, and the cargo on the trailer was the school's property technically, that was a fun conversation with a state trooper at 0545 on a Thursday morning, had to make ALL the phone calls, I woke everybody up, it was great)
"bring it back with beer"
a friend of mine (that owns a Porsche) once asked to borrow our motor coach....I said sure....just come get in in the P-car and leave the keys...funny I never heard him ask again.
Years ago I saw a bumper sticker on a pickup truck - "Yes it's my Pickup Truck, and NO you may NOT borrow it"
you think you have friends when you own a pickup....buy a trailer and see how many MORE friends you'll have all of a sudden.
