Scary stuff when the throttle does that. I had a friend of mine have a similar thing happen. He stomped the gas pedal and the throttle stuck and drove into a building. Come to find out both motor and trans mount failed the motor turned on its side in the engine bay. Glad you kept it under control. It would be real cool to see an engine upgrade in your truck.
I know the transmission mount is good. I put a new one in last October when I had the C-4 out to clean it up and put new seals in it.
Every time I see those intakes I want to build an 8V carb to sit on top.
Wonder if (4) Weber IDAs could be adapted to the Cobra/GT40 lower intakes? ....not that I would do it because it's still carburetion but, might be cool on someone else's ride.
The spacing is almost perfect for the Autolite 2100 boosters. I have a pile of them, but not 4 matching. I bought a 5.0 lower from the yard a while back to experiment with. Could be done, but the custom body is currently what's stopping me. I've studied the IDA's and the old Harley carbs. If I could find four identical 1.08 2100's I'd be a good ways there. People used to sell them for $5, or just give them to you. Not any more.
On the 351W lower intake with the Ford Motorsport engineering number on it, note the R/R upper to lower intake mount hole is taller than the rest. That would have to me machined down to flat with the rest. Which I'm sure you've already caught. The cast Cobra upper was only 3 H.P. lower than the tubular one as I recall. The cast upper was in fact 1993 Mustang Cobra.
1993 Cobra upper F3ZZ9424C.
1993 Cobra lower F3ZZ9424D.
Ford Motorsport (now FRPP) also sold a "replica" of the 93 Cobra upper and lower intakes together under kit part numbers M9424Z51 and M9424Z51P ( polished) back in the day. They claimed those intakes could support up to 350 HP.
The tubular upper was sold through Ford Motorsport (now FRPP) Warehouse Distributors (like me) under part number M9424A51. It also was the factory upper and lower intake on the 1st Gen Lightning. Which with it's 351W with various Ford Motorsports parts on it was just as fast as Chevy's SS454 truck starting as of it's 1st year of 1993. According to numerous magazine comparos back then. Chevy soon gave up and discontinued the SS454 truck and Ford kept the lightning going until 2004.
1st Gen Lightning upper was part number F3TZ9424B.
1st Gen Lightning lower was part number F3TZ9424C.
I have an old Ford Motorsport catalog. The tubular upper and corresponding lower were available as over-the-counter performance items two model years before the Cobra came into production in '93.
Notice the availability date for the tubular upper/lower intakes for a 5.0L engine.(Spring [1991]).
The Cobra cast aluminum upper intake can be Extrude Honed to out flow the tubular upper intake but, it's too bad the tubular upper never came on the the production Cobras from '93-'95. The tubular version just looks a lot more impressive and it would run cooler than the cast upper (more air circulation around it).

Yepper. The lower and upper tubular were "off the shelf" Motorsport pieces They (SVT) put on the 1st Gen Lightings to make them quick and comparable to the SS454 truck. The Lightning was Ford's answer to the SS454. AND DID IT WITH LESS CUBES!
