Thank you for all of your replies, We are really looking forward to the trip.
We are spending 4 days in Yellowstone and 2 in cody, and 3 in Rapid city, It may not be long enough, but we only have so much time. My parents are driving their 38 foot bus and we are pulling our travel trailer.
We just had our first child in December so between all of us and our 2 campers we it should be a great time even for him.
It sounds like you'll have great time all great places to see. Devils Tower is on the way back to SD not far out of the way either.
Just because, I'd put a new Serpentine Belt on it and keep the old one as a spare. If you do change the belt, just barely move the Tensioner, just enough to release the Belt. To much pressure is a guarantied tensioner failure. Also, check the Air Pressure in the Spare Tire, set it for towing. Did you re-packed the front Wheel Bearings on your truck when you did the brakes ?
Here's one that I realized today while I was rotating the tires on my truck. Make sure you've taken the wheels off your truck and trailer at least once that year, or you may have corrosion issues. This new-to-me-but-quite-old truck probably hasn't had it's wheels off in years, and I had to hammer on one wheel for ages to break the corrosion on the mounting surface. Used a combination of a sledge and 2x4 and mule-kicking it.
It got a thin coat of anti-sieze before I reinstalled it, so that'll be easier if I have to do this same thing on the side of a highway somewhere.
I carry a cheap-o infrared thermometer from Harbor Freight. Great for checking the brakes/tires when you are stopped for fuel or whatever. Doesn't have to be super accurate, you're just looking for one that is way higher temp than the others. Quick walk around with no out of whack readings is a great confidence builder.
Yeah, I have a cheap infrared laser gun too. I check all eight wheels, and in the afternoon I can sure tell which side was in the sun and which was in the shade.
