I've had enough of this crap plastic vehicles are made of nowadays. I miss my 1997 F250 heavy duty with its metal door handles, metal tailgate handle, metal mirrors, metal cowl etc. I do more UV coating and wasting time since 2004 and after all my wasted time all the black trim is just fading away. Plus I hate the ugly black, I'm a chrome guy and at least my 97 was polished parts...
so first question does any body make aluminum polished bed caps that FULLY replace the factory plastic junks?
second I know there are aluminum door handles but is there an aluminum replacement handle for the tailgate?
third how do you think having my 08 up tow mirrors chrome plated? I'm wondering how hard it would be to disassemble them completely for plating?
I put these bed rails on my '01 F350. While they're not Aluminum, they still looked fine 10 years later...., until a tree fell on the truck during hurricane Irene.

Do you have a picture of these on your truck ? I'm sure they're better than the aluminum Diamond Plate covers I've seen.
Sorry I don't have any digital photos - will have to look through the old photo albums - if I find one, will scan it.
They were fairly robust and tougher to scratch than I thought. A couple of times I dropped heavy stuff on them and was surprised that they didn't dent. The cover on top of the tailgate was a bit worse for the wear, but I often had oversized lumber strapped down and sticking out over thE tailgate..
They had some sort of coating on them, so they didn't show fingerprints (like a stainless steel fridge). That lasted ~5 years and then it would get smudged and had kind of a bluish hue to them. I would clean, polish them, but there was a weird thing with waxing. I would get them (what I thought) was all cleaned up and shiny- but for a couple of weeks after the waxy haze would come back (?). Sort of like the wax wasn't sticking.....
