Cabin temperature sensor

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum. Sorry if this has been posted, I had trouble finding anything with a search.

I have a 2007 F-150 Lariat with the digital cabin temperature setting. Lately it started to hunt for the temperature, going from all the way cold, to adding heat when it should be cooling, etc. I'm thinking there's a temperature sensor or thermostat that needs to be replaced. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it something that requires getting into the dash? Is there something other than a sensor that could be causing the problem?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Have you run the internal EATC On-Demand Self Test?

No, I haven't heard of that, and will do a search for it. Thank you for your help.
