Electrical issues

15 f350 gas srw . I had previously posted about when I operated my 8' straight blade western plow the dash would go out ,hvac turn off and on and traction control would cycle on. I brought it to the upfitter to check out plow and everything was in spec, motor draw was in spec, all wiring was inspected and retightened. They passed on to me a ssm that Ford had put out that described my issue exactly. I made an appointment at the current dealership that my fleet was being serviced at and they told me after looking at it not to bring it back because they didn't want to put the time in to diagnose it. The next dealership that I went to had said they could definitely fix it and after they had it 3 days told me they can't find an issue even though I could duplicate it to them and was told to bring it back to where I bought it because the amount of time needed to diagnose wasn't going to be lucrative for them. So off to the selling dealership I go. They are very nice and acknowledge there is an issue. They get a new program from Ford and reflash computer. Everything works perfect now. I pick it up and it's now acting up again. Ford tech service doesn't have an answer and I am now lost 7 days on a commercial work vehicle. Does anyone have any advice on what else to try to look at to figure this out? Thanks . It's frustrating that dealerships don't have the technology to try to troubleshoot electric issues.

Are you saying that you're now having the issue with the plow off?

i know there's been many discussions about it happening when operating the pliw plow because of the power spikes, but if it's happening to you now with the plow off, it is most likely a different issue

No it's only with plow on and it's a point of contention because some say its the upfit because truck is fine when plow is off but I paid for this to plow snow and it doesn't. Has any one else had this issue and had a fix. My thought is to put a capacitor inline to the plow main power so the voltage spike will hit that first soften the draw on the truck. I haven't been able to get any good opinions if this might work.

This is a Ford bulletin on it. This deals with 2017 models, but also prior years. Print it out and show it to the dealer

the above came from this thread, which gives a good explanation

They updated it and it still is there . Hotline made up a custom program for dealer to download but the truck won't retain the program, after the truck sits or ignition is cycled it reverts back. It worked fine but after it sat for 2 days problem came back. They redownloaded and it worked fine but no Answer on why it wont stick. This is what im told , not sure if any of that makes sense though.

If and ECU will not retain new information that's Downloaded into it, then there is some corruption going on in it's software. You need to ask the dealer to completely remove ALL of the software from the ECU and re-download it starting from the original program then all updates after that, OR ask them to install a new ECU with the latest software for your truck. At first I was going to say try changing the ECU power relay, but Knowing that your ECU is NOT retaining the upgraded programming says you have some sort of memory leak OR the tech didn't download the new update properly. Remember, it's just a computer, not really any different than your home computer except it's not Windows or Apple OS X, and software does corrupt and fail, so either have it completely wiped and reloaded or ask for a new ECU.

This was my thought but I'm not too well versed in the os the truck runs on. I was pushing for the bcm to be replaced as this is the part that is seeing the power surge and shutting the electronics down but the hotline wants the dealer to dump this back on the upfitters lap.Me and the service manager dont get why as the update fixes the issue but then returns as the truck sits over night, it shouldn't have anything to do with them. To boot customer service tells me that this happens and I have to just wait it out. They don't get it sometimes.

As of today under my suggestion they replaced the battery and everything works fine. They are going to keep it overnight and make sure it works in the morning. I am hoping this is the problem as i need this truck for work.

I picked up the truck today and everything runs great. I noticed the battery they put in was 1000 ca, not sure what it came with. I was told Ford didnt want to work on it anymore and wanted to dump it off on the upfitter but thanks to everyone on here who chimed in and some research i did , i
convinced the manager to put a battery in and that did the trick. From what i read the battery cannot absorb the overcharge hence the bcm shutting down sensitive electronics. Im not sure when this is going to rear its head again as we all know how batteries age but at least i know what to check/change first. Second my origanal battery which was just 2 yrs old ,16k miles checked out o.k. on the test machine.
