Came with the new front cover kit. I can't find an old one anywhere.
what is it's diameter? Is this an OEM front cover? I installed an OEM front cover on my 06' last year and I don't recall having anything like that in the box.
It's an OEM kit that comes with the LPOP, water pump, and all the seals and gasket. I can't find this thing anywhere on the motor or the old cover. My pinky fits in the larger side of the hole, so maybe 1/2" ID on the larger hole, overall diameter maybe 5/8".

I will look at my old cover when I get home to see if there is anything like that. Although I can't imagine what it would be for. What year is your truck?
Thanks, it's an 03. This is the updated 04 cover, but not the 05 and up cover. There are three different versions of this apparently. The spring with the plunger under the LPOP fits inside it, but there wasn't one in the old cover when I took that spring and plunger out.
It doesn't show anything like that in the kit, http://www.freedomracing.com/6-0l-front-cover-and-low-pressure-oil-pump-kit-5c3z-6608-b.html?gclid=CKW5z5HI29MCFUtNfgodtsULlQ
Yeah I just saw that as well. Really confused by this. Don't want to get this all together and miss some stupid little piece that causes it not to run right. Found another o-ring in there that I can find a place for either.

The only orings I can think of would be 1 on the pipe that the heater hose attaches to, the big (thick one ) between the intake and front cover and the one on the plug that holds in the oil pressure regulator, the other 2 would be one on the thermostat housing and one on the water pump cover.
Do you have the front crankshaft seal/wear ring installer?
No I don't, but just posted another thread, there wasn't one on there before. Was that normal for 03 engines?
They did not come from the factory with a wear ring but the new seal will. You can either rent or buy the tool from www.freedomracing.com I opted to buy it.
I reused the old seal since I didn't have the tool. Stupid idea, I know, but would it be ok using the old seal like that? It wasn't leaking before and the seal wasn't damaged at all.

Worst case is that it would leak. If it doesn't leak you are good to go. I'm sure they include a wear ring to ensure a good sealing surface for the new seal as the crank shaft could be slightly worn from the original seal wearing on it.
Good deal. Thanks for the help. It's not a huge job to get back to that part if I need to, so I'm going to roll with what I have now and we will see. Wish me luck!
