I have a 1984 f150 and I am planning on swapping the 300 in line 6 for a 302. Does the 302 distributor have a vacuum advance. Because the distributor on the 300 does not have one it just has the rectangular clip. Do I have to change the whole wiring for the distributor when I swap it over to the 302. The 302 is a 1990 but I am gonna convert it to carburetor by the way.
If the 300 doesn't have vacuum advance that means the engine is computer controlled. So, that means you have to do both the engine swap as well as a conversion to DS-II ignition. A DS-II ignition doesn't have a computer. And, you will have to change the engine wiring harness to a DS-II harness, which is part of the conversion.
You are going to need a new distributor for the 302 anyway if it's a 1990 model, the fuel injected dist won't work with a carb. So you could buy a HEI dist for a Ford, the wiring is very simple which people like. And most people have good luck with the HEI Ford conversion distributors, though some have had a few problems with the very cheap ebay units.
I've been running with a HEI distributor on the 302 in my truck for a couple years now without a hitch. Word of caution though... There are 2 different gear types for an HEI that goes in the 302. One is for flat-tappet engines and the other is for the roller engines. If I remember correctly, one has a steel or cast iron gear, and the other brass or something like that. Also, they are a bit big so they may interfere with your air cleaner. I opted to go with a smaller diameter air filter, but much taller so I wouldn't restrict air flow. Super simple to install and helps to clean up all the extra components in the engine bay.
If I had to do it again, I would definitely buy another!

Who is the distributor made by and if you know what is the part number.
