Electrical or fuel gremlins

I am starting a new thread, but for more info see my old thread from last summer here:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ting-down.html

-Carb is an edelbrock 650.
-MSD Distributor w no vacuum advance
-Engine 429
-Fuel tank rear poly
-All steel line except the 12" before mechanical pump

Background: Last summer after chasing issues, I finally took it to a professional who diagnosed the issues as electrical. Worked great for around 20 hours when I put it away for winter.

Last week I got it out of storage and did an oil change.
Low Idle was running a little rough, so I turned up the throttle stop screw on carb and replaced a 12" section of hose just in fromt of the fuel pump that looked like it had a kink.

Ran it for about 1 hr yesterday, then the problem started.

At low idle, the engine totally cuts out. Runs fine above 1500 RPM. At startup it runs strong for about 2 seconds then cuts out. Give it a little gas and it runs fine. Tried turning up the throttle screw some more and it did not help. Had to limp home at a speedy 25 mph around corners.

I did my research last night for a couple hours and here is my plan of attack.

1) Fresh gas. Filled up and has 10-15 minutes on the engine
2) Check for rad fluid in oil. Still looks good
3) Check rad fluid level. Still looks good
4) Check the dist. to make sure not loose. Verified ok

5) Verify choke position
6) See if I can keep the engine running with starting fluid
7) Pull the carb apart and look for issues
8) Use carb cleaner to look for vacuum leaks

I am skipping steps like checking compression, coil, fuel line kinks and fuel filter as engine runs great anywhere other then at low idle and my temp gauge never showed a spike in temp.

If any experts out there can think of a step I may be missing would be glad to consider.

tks

Pull your fuel line at the carb, and maybe stick a hose on the end to run to a container, and crank or start the engine and see what kind of output you're getting from the pump.
This is how my lazy butt fuels my lawn mower!

Sounds like maybe the electrical repair could still be holding, and that a fuel problem occurred during the intervening months - especially if it has done a lot of sitting with ethanol-tainted gasoline...

Check for vacuum leaks. That would explain a lot

Re

Update: I verified no vacuum leaks and the pump is putting out 10 oz in less then 20
sec

Next I verified I could keep the engine running with starter fluid. This was a great suggestion

Next thing that was helpful that was never suggested was to disconnect the accelerator pump. Doing this the engine would not run. This pointed directly to a carb issue, since the fuel keeping engine running was direct from accelerator pump.

Will provide an update after I pull carb apart.
